"Were you acting insane?" "Not any more insane than usual..."

The title was a question I asked my 11-year-old genius (really) son and of course, his answer.

This is the official "about me" post, as opposed to a page worth in my profile.  Frankly it's not all that exciting, but let's just imagine that I'm leaving all the good bits out to use as fodder in later posts, shall we?

I was born in Indianapolis but I am currently living in Nashville, TN. We're hoping to relocate to Atlanta (or?) in the near future. I'm currently slogging my way toward my Ed.D so I can teach online courses to adults. I started at IU's Herron School of Art years ago and I've studied Egyptology at the University of Manchester (U.K.).  I've taught preschool, elementary art, and middle school reading post-children. I'm a classically trained singer but I gave it up rather than singing the men's or children's roles due to my low voice and/or short stature.

I've been married for 15 years to an ex-Navy Seabee and we have two precocious but adorable sons, ages 11 (7th grade) and 7 (2nd grade) whom I am homeschooling due to the abysmal state of Nashville public schools.  We also have six cats, 2 dogs, and numerous fish thanks to my family's collective inability to turn down strays.

I am a book junkie (or should I say nook?) and I enjoy writing, but I find in my quest for the mot juste  I often sound way more pretentious than I am in real life.  Thankfully my sense of humor prevents me from becoming insufferable.  I am addicted to technology and I'm pretty sure I would be driven crazy in a relatively short period of time without it. I am a Christian, but I hesitate to mention it because I struggle so much with questions of religion.

I've been blogging for a long time, but it's been quite erratic and never in one central location.  My sister-in-law and her baking and lifestyle blog, Life Before Dark Thirty, got me thinking I ought to write again, even if it's only for myself and the cat sitting on the back of my chair.

          Cheers!
